Varsity

Neil Baasten

Baasten

Neil Baasten is in his seventh year as the Varsity Head coach of the Hoover Boys Soccer Program. Last season, the varsity had a record of 4-11-2. Coach Baasten's record at Hoover High School is 56-42-9 and his overall record as a varsity soccer head coach is 226-129-43. His goals for this year's varsity squad is to be in position to play for the Federal League Championship and the District Championship.

Neil graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame with a B.B.A. Degree in Accounting. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is the co-managing partner of the law firm of Baasten, McKinley & Co. LPA in Canton, Ohio. Neil moved to Stark County in 1978 and currently resides in Canton with his wife Chris. They recently celebrated their thirty-ninth wedding anniversary.

 

JV

Gary Bodenschatz

Bodneschatz

Gary Bodenschatz is in his seventh season coaching the Hoover High School boys' J.V. team. He also teaches Interactive Media at Hoover High School where he will begin his sixth year teaching this fall. He spent the previous ten years teaching Graphic Design at Timken Sr. High School where he also coached the varsity soccer team as an assistant. Gary is a 1987 graduate of Hoover High School where he competed in the soccer program all four years, varsity soccer in the '85 and '86 seasons. He graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He later earned his teaching certificate from Kent State University, and recently was awarded a Master of Arts in Education degree. Gary resides in North Canton with his wife and four children.

 

Matt Miller

Miller

Matt Miller is in his third season as a coach for Hoover High School and will be coaching the JV White team. Matt is a 2001 graduate of Hoover High School where he competed in the soccer program for four years. He was a three time varsity letterman and received all-county and all-league honors his junior and senior seasons. He was part of a defense that set the record for least goals allowed (10) and was a senior captain in 2000. Matt went on to play club soccer at the University of Dayton for two years. Matt has previous coaching experience for Metro F.C. where he coached U17 Girls, in Dayton Ohio. He furthered his coaching knowledge by attaining a Nation "D" coaching license this winter while living in North Carolina.

Matt graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in Computer Science. He currently works for Crown Partners LLC, an IT consulting firm based in Dayton OH. He also volunteers his time to maintain the Hoover High School soccer website. Matt resides in North Canton with his wife, Erin.

 

Assistant

Paul Bluman

Blumon

Paul Bluman is a lifelong Stark County resident and currently resides in Canton with his wife Nancy. He is in his sevnth year as boy's varsity assistant soccer coach at Hoover and his 15th year coaching High School soccer overall. I am excited about this year's team and their unified push to achieve the next level. The seniors are leading the team and are focusing on achieving our goals. The work done in the off season is sure to pay dividends during our tough schedule. The continued support from the parents and school staff is always greatly appreciated.
